Australia Student Visa English Language Requirements

Planning to study a VET course or Higher Education  in Australia?

For Student Visa applications, applicants may need to meet specific English language requirements. For tests taken on or after 7 August 2025, the minimum scores include:

• IELTS Academic 6.0 or PTE Academic 47 — no additional English study required.
• IELTS Academic 5.5 or PTE Academic 39 — may be accepted when the principal course is accompanied by at least 10 weeks of ELICOS or another eligible pathway program.
• IELTS Academic 5.0 or PTE Academic 31 — may be accepted when the principal course is accompanied by at least 20 weeks of ELICOS.

These requirements apply as a general reference for Australian Student Visa applications. Entry requirements may also vary depending on the education provider and course.
